About Tim Powell
Tim Powell is a working actor, coach, and publisher with more than four decades of professional experience in film, television, voice-over, and theater. A longtime member of SAG-AFTRA, he has built a career not only in performance, but also in helping other actors navigate the practical realities of the profession.
Over the past decade, Tim has become widely known for his expertise in self-taping — the technical side of modern auditioning. He has taught workshops for organizations including the Television Academy, SAG-AFTRA, The SAG-AFTRA Conservatory in Residence at The American Film Institute, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, UCLA, and other major acting schools, helping thousands of performers learn how to create clear, professional auditions using simple, affordable equipment.
AuditionsUp grew from a simple idea:
Actors should not be excluded from opportunity because they lack expensive gear or technical knowledge. The site exists to provide straightforward guidance, practical tools, and freely shared resources that empower performers to take control of their audition process.
Tim’s approach is grounded in a simple philosophy:
Good. Fast. Cheap. You can have all three.
Through AuditionsUp, his books, and his teaching, Tim continues to advocate for accessible, actor-friendly solutions that remove technical barriers and allow performers to focus on what matters most — their work.
Tim also publishes independent work through WorldCraft Publishing and maintains a professional portfolio at TimPowell.com.
